This is Doc ! 

He is a two year old who reared up in a horse trailer comming home with his new owners.  The veterinarian came out and began antibiotic therapy and daily wound care treatment immediately.  I met Doc 8 days after his injury.  He had purulent drainage with a foul odor present.  His skull bone was exposed and black in color.  The owners requested autologous blood therapy at this time.  The veterinarian sedated the horse, drew 52 ccs of blood and debrided the area.  10ccs of Platelet Rich Plasma was applied to the wound and covered with a wet to dry dressing.

5 Days After Application of PRP !

Dressing was removed and the wound was irrigated with normal saline.  As the wound healed three bone fragments worked their way up and out of the wound bed.  Daily dressing changes with saline and silvadene ointment continued for approximately 60 days. 

Doc is healed !

This is what Doc looks like approximately 90 days after treatment.  He is doing well and is learning all about saddles, brushes, and lead ropes.
