Advantages of PRP from an orthopedic application are decreased risk of infection, increased hemostasis, reduced swelling and decreased pain.  If the patient has less pain they are likely to reach their physical therapy goals quicker and achieve full range of motion sooner.  Growth factors enhance cell proliferation of the tissues and the patient is able to heal and return to activities of daily living quicker.  Studies have shown that the patient treated with platelet rich plasma use less narcotics for pain post operation than patients treated without PRP.
